13 Feb Planning a destination wedding in Marrakech

Ah February, the season of love. It’s the season to meet with happy couples looking for a small intimate venue for a destination wedding in Marrakech. After all, Valentine’s Day is upon us and the upcoming wedding show at the Four Seasons in Marrakech from 24 to 27 February 2017, here at Riad 72 we’re thinking about wedding planning.

While there are no shortage of elaborate palace hotels in Marrakech and the surrounding areas, our favourite being the Selman Palace and even Palais Namaskar in the Palmaraie district, for couples getting married in Marrakech and looking for a small intimate venue we invite you to consider Riad 72. Located in the heart of the Marrakech medina, but not so far in that guests get lost trying to find the venue, or ladies struggle wearing heels along the cobblestone streets, this venue is perfect for up to 50 guests. Riad 72 is an intimate and cozy venue for a destination wedding with breath-taking ceremony space and magical dining areas that become impromptu dance floors when the timing is right.

Saying I do

Up on the terrace, views of the of Dar El Bacha and the old city, provide a beautiful backdrop as the happy couple exchange vows in front of their loved ones. We recommend a late afternoon ceremony under the pergola to allow guests time to explore Marrakech in the morning before returning to the riad to fancy up for the party.

With the I dos recited, it’s time to celebrate. A toast to the bride and groom couldn’t be more atmospheric than on a rooftop terrace in a centuries-old city as the sun sets, lighting the sky in magical pinks, oranges and even purples.

While the legal ceremony cannot take place in Morocco by European or American law, we partner with a lovely celebrant to write the ceremony script and assist with the vows. And as he based in Morocco, he is also available for the rehearsal prior to the wedding if necessary.

A Moroccan feast

A courtyard shaded by towering banana and palm trees and a splashing fountain filled with birdsong late afternoon provides the perfect space for dining for up to 50 guests seated. During tastings, couples are invited to select a bespoke menu to serve during their guests on the big day.

Our head chef Mustafa of La table du Riad delights guests with his creations transforming classic Moroccan flavors into contemporary tastes. After all, our menu is made using only fresh seasonal products. So whether you decide to serve two starters followed by two main course dishes such as a meat tajine and Beldi couscous (a special hand-rolled couscous) with sautéed vegetables or pick various dishes from à la carte menu.

Local touches

As is tradition in Morocco, the bride and her close female friends and family enjoy a private henna party the day before the wedding celebrations. For brides choosing to marry at Riad 72, we can arrange a henna artist to adorn the ladies’ hands with traditional or modern henna tattoos. We’ll even arrange the traditional tea and pastries served during the party.

It’s all in the details

Floral decor, bouquets and boutonnieres, and even a flower crown for the more bohemian bride can all be arranged by our on-site concierge and wedding organizer Stefania. And given her love of the souks, she’s happy to help source Moroccan-style attire for welcome dinners, bridesmaids’ gifts, party favours and gift boxes to be placed in the room. After all, it’s your big day and no detail shall be overlooked. And when it comes to saying I do, we can arrange the celebrant for you.

We are happy to help the clients organise as much or as little as they want.

A place to call home

Riad 72 is your home in Marrakech and we want your guests to be comfortable during their stay as part of your destination wedding celebrations. With seven rooms and suites to accommodate your party (and five additional rooms available from August 2017), we also provide complimentary airport pick ups so guests arrive hassle-free at the riad where we serve all-day breakfast and complimentary mint tea and pastries throughout the day. And since everyone may have different priorities of what to see and do, our on-site concierge provides custom designed itineraries to ensure guests experience the best of Marrakech.

About our wedding organizer

Having recently exchanged vows with her long-time partner, Marrakech-based Stefania meets with the bride and groom (and often parents as well) to discuss the logistics – accommodation options, hair and make-up, floral, party favours, food and wine tastings, party, celebrant and decor – for their destination wedding in Marrakech. She then works in collaboration with trustworthy partners using professional staff and adequate facilities to organize the big day. We can even recommend our favourite honeymoon destinations within Morocco. She takes pride in catering for each couple’s individual and unique requirements, because after all no wedding is ever the same.

To start your wedding organizing process at Riad 72, please contact us by email and we will arrange a phone conversation with you.
