Riad 72 Shopping in Sidi Ghanem

With a new riad planned to open on 8th August  2014, when we’re not overseeing the building site, we’re out sourcing the furniture.  While some of the designs are purchased from Italy, most  of our décor is sourced in Marrakech.  And one of our favourite areas is the industrial neighbourhood, Sidi Ghanem where workshops blend perfectly with showrooms.

So for guests who come to Riad 72 and fall in love with the décor and design, we’ve put together a little Sidi Ghanem shopping guide:

To recreate the magical ambiance provided by the gorgeous lanterns, head to Henry Cath (No. 139), known for their custom-made pieces of the finest quality.  As each piece is made to order, but expect to wait up to five weeks for delivery.

For fabulous furniture finds, both large and small, visit the ever-changing showroom at Magasin General (No. 369).  We have sourced many large items here for the riad and continue to find little gems for the new rooms!

When hunger hits, we head to Le Zinc, one of a few restaurants in this neighbourhood and the only restaurant serving wine.  It has a cool ambiance and delicious food.  Or, for a mid-morning café au lait, head to  Café Leon (also a great light-lunch option), located steps from Les Sens du Marrakech.

Other stops along the way include:

Design&Co (No. 166b) for their fabulously curated collection of unique artwork, furniture and home accessories, with new artists regularly featured.

For colourful cushions with traditional Moroccan scenes printed on various textiles, head to Sissi Morocco (No. 366).  Located on the second floor of the building, also housing Voice Gallery and well-worth a stop, this bright showroom features a range of interior décor.  The cushions just happen to be our favourite!

For interior scents, be sure to stop by Keros (No. 238) for their beautifully scented perfumes and room sprays.  Scents include Oud, Verbena and Amber, to name a few.

Though we don’t have the pottery within our riad, we do recommend a stop at the Loun showroom for gorgeous serving ware, coffee and tea sets and even vases produced in their workshop on the Route de Ourika.  The colours are divine and the designs are simple yet sweet.
