15 Aug Mini-mooning in Marrakech

With its thousand-and-one-nights ambiance, design boutique hotels, succulent cuisine served in centuries-old palaces and romantic hammams, all just a short-haul flight from European destinations makes Marrakech the ideal mini-moon destination for newlyweds in need of a post-celebration getaway.

Relax and pamper

It may be the ultimate couples’ treatment. Scrub away the stress of organizing your big day during a relaxing hammam and massage to kick off a mini-moon. No need to be nervous, find out about Nicola’s hammam experience.

Wine and dine

When booking a dinner reservation, don’t be surprised if you’re seated in a centuries-old palace. Or on a rooftop terrace with one of the best views of the medina. Or a cabaret-style restaurant where belly dancers and Gnaoua musicians entertain guests during dinner. It’s all part of the Marrakech experience.

Much to the surprise of many guests, Morocco produces fine wines which are often paired with succulent tajines, mouth-watering mechaoui and tanjias and even a selection of artisan cheeses. Produced in both the Meknes regions and coastal Essaouira, sampling is possible in many restaurants.

Romantic days out

With the Agafay desert just 45 minutes from Marrakech, why not experience the desert without the time needed to reach the Sahara desert. For a bohemian chic experience, lunch at La Pause is a must. Slip in to your finest boho finds, enjoy a camel trek to the camp where you’ll enjoy breath-taking views of the Atlas Mountains imposing above the rock desert as your enjoy lunch in a private tent.

The Atlas Mountains should not be missed! Owned by Richard Branson, Kasbah Tamadot is an ideal destination to start a short trek through the surrounding valley before settling in for lunch with a view of the surrounding Berber villages.

Historic Tinmel holds a place in RiadLiving owner Giovanna’s heart as this is little village in the Atlas Mountains, housing one of the two mosques where non-Muslims can enter.

Take home a piece of Marrakech

To mark this special occasion, many guests like to take home a reminder of their stay in Marrakech.  Carpet shopping in the souks is one great way, in particular for a handira (wedding blanket) traditionally given to girls in the Middle Atlas on their wedding day. A visit to Mustapha Blaoui’s located just steps from Riad 72 provides ample choice of trendy Moroccan home wares. Artworks from one of the local galleries in Gueliz or Sidi Ghanem (Marrakech’s industrial zone) is another popular choice.

Choosing a riad

Many riads offer the promise of an Arabian nights feel, others seek to provide a wider range of services meaning that guests choose to spend a day within the little oasis. The options available are endless and the choice often overwhelming. For couples hoping to explore the souks, a centrally located riad in the Dar El Bacha, Riad Laaroussa and Bab Doukkala areas are best. For relaxing and soaking up the sun, larger boutique riads / hotels are ideal for their on-site spas, restaurants and pools.

Private balconies, on-site hammam and massage facilities, intimate dining options, innovative wine lists and cozy nooks for whiling away the hours together are pleasant surprises guests tend to appreciate upon arrival at Riad 72.

Getting here

With regular flights on RyanAir and EasyJet to leading European destinations as well as direct flight on BritishAirways, Norwegian, Iberia and TAP to name a few, Marrakech is more accessible than ever.
