Spring is a hectic time in Marrakech with a lot of interesting events and exhibitions going on. Our team at 72 Riad Living is standing by to share our insiders’ tips about the best events and ready to help you secure tickets for the most sought after happenings in town.

One of the most exciting art events is the 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair that premiered last year. 18 international galleries will participate in its second edition here in the Red City. The event will take place at the La Mamounia hotel on February 23 and 24 with previews on February 21 and 22.

Following an inaugural Marrakech edition this past February, the fair (which also takes place in London and New York) will include seven galleries from Africa: Galerie Cécile Fakhoury (Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire / Dakar, Senegal), Goodman Gallery (Johannesburg and Cape Town, South Africa), L’Atelier 21 (Casablanca, Morocco), Loft Art Gallery (Casablanca), LouiSimone Guirandou Gallery (Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire), Retro Africa (Abuja, Nigeria), and Siniya28 (Marrakech). First-time exhibitors include Galerie Poggi (Paris), Goodman Gallery (Johannesburg and Cape Town, South Africa), In Situ – fabienne leclerc (Paris), and Siniya28 (Marrakech).

The fair will be complemented by a program of talks and events curated by art historian and curator Karima Boudou, with a focus on the African-American painter, jazz musician, and poet Ted Joans.

Other exciting art events to keep an eye on are the French artist Remeds fourth solo exhibition at the chic David Block Gallery in March as well as the modern photo exhibitions of Gallerie 127 and the current “shifting shapes” exhibition by Michele Ciacciofera at Voice Gallery.

Another iconic Marrakech happening is the TEDx event. TED is a global brand and well-established concept for inspirational short talks with the goal to spread good ideas. The Pope, Bono, Sting, Bill Clinton, Bill Gates and many more have entered the iconic TED stage over the years. The 7th edition of TEDxMarrakesh takes place on Saturday MARCH 2, 2019 at Es Saadi Palace in Marrakech with the theme “We Are the World – Identifying Identity”.

20 well-known international and Moroccan speakers will be sharing ideas and new thoughts about identity. Personal identity, social identity, cultural identity, digital identity, corporate identity and how have they changed over time.

The speakers are from all over the world, you’ll be able to listen to OUM (Moroccan singer-songwriter superstar), Marisa Berenson (Golden Globe nominated actress, iconic model and UNESCO goodwill ambassador), Niklas Kebbon (Swedish Ambassador to Morocco), Saeida Rouass (best-selling author of a series of successful Morocco-based thrillers), Dr. Florian Langenscheidt (Member of German Speakers Hall of Fame), Magdalena Kowalczyk (TV-star and gold medallist in Thai Boxing), Ilkka Halava (Finish futurologist and popular keynote speaker), Zohreh Tabatabai (Former Director of Communications at the United Nations) and many more.
